Paint the Wind by Pam Munoz Ryan

Maya lives secluded in her grandmother’s overprotective care until an unexpected event sends her to Wyoming to meet her mother’s family. Maya learns about the mother she hardly remembers, and she encounters a wild herd of horses including a mare that her mother once rode.

  1. Great story. It reminds me of the Marguerite Henry horse stories. And I love Pam Munoz Ryan's books.
Did you wonder about the mountain lion?

  2. Paint the Wind was the most discriped book I have ever read and loved every second of it. I could feel the pain that Maya felt when she broke her ankle in the story; I was a bit flabbergasted when I read about Maya's grandmother having a massive stroke; I was also very sad that Artemisia {a horse Maya's mother once rode before she died}lost her foal Klee to a wild cat; although it was very brave of Maya letting Artemisia go with a horse named Remington after what they both went through as she tried to get Artemisia back to camp.JZ grade 6 WW

  4. I love this book. The main character Maya changed greatly. At first she was scared and unsure of everything then she was brave and confident. Her cousin Payton changed a lot too. He went from mischievous to nice. The book had it's dangerousn parts. Maya went on a dangerous journey to save her mothers old horse Artemisia and her foal Klee. The saddest part was when Maya found out that Klee got killed. I recommend this book for anyone that likes suspense, horses or reading.

  5. I think it was sad when Maya was five years old her parents died . Also I thought it was sad when she spilled the breeds that came from a shoe box that had once belonged to her mother, only the things that her grandmother told about her . After reading this book it felt like I was about to cry because this was a sad story at the beginning of the book and the end of the book too. M.W Gr.5 SPG

  6. My favorite part is when Maya fixes her leg and when she starts riding horses again. It is my favorite book because it is exciting and adventurous for kids to have fun and for thinking about how your life is.

  8. This book was the first Nutmeg Nomminee I read. Right from the start I knew this book was going to be in my top two. The character Maya was very interesting. She kept going despite the problems that almost stopped her in her tracks. This book was very descriptive. Like, the description of Artemesia.I could completely picture her in my head. It was very sad to hear that Maya's parents died and she lied about the way it happened.!The adventure Maya takes is breath taking.I would highly recommend this book!
