I have read only half of the book, but it was so good, I had to comment right away. I love how Gorman and Findley used a lot of description in the beginning telling about Charlie's tryout for a baseball team. I felt horrible that he didn't make it on, but I became curious when Luther Peale showed up in his life. I was asking myself if he is a good or bad guy. But after I read on I noticed that he might help Charlie become sucessful in baseball. After only reading half of the book, I can still recommend this book to sports or mystery lovers.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. It was very easy to understand and was full of suspense. I couldn't stop reading the book until I was finished with it. I especially loved the depth of friendship between Charlie and Luther. I agree with EC that I was surprised when Luther popped into Charlie's suspenseful life. Charlie is also very easy to connect to. He seems like an average kid who has a couple of friends and has an inspirational dream. I recommend this book for a kid of any age. It is amazing and is one of the best books I have ever read!

ReplyDeleteI loved this book. It was a good example of how bad African Americans were treated. I disliked how Luther was treated. I wonder why at the end of the book why Luther tried to save Ruckus, when Ruckus tried to kill Luther. Over all I think this book was very well written, I loved it. I did not want to put it down.

This is a good story for people my age,but the things I didn't like is sometimes the book is hard to understand. The things I did like is he never give up, and that is what I learned from him. I wonder if the author is going to make a series with this book. This reminds me of a story called Babe Ruth because in the story he had to practice baseball because , like Luther, he also wanted to be in the major Leagues when he was young. JL GR5 SPG
ReplyDeleteThis book is wonderful! The character Luther was very interesting! He tried to save Ruckus' life after he tried killing him.I love the fact that Luther never gave up after everything that he had to go through. This book had so much suspense. If you were to put this book into a category you would put it in must read now.I would highly recommend this book!

I think the book was good. I like that is was about baseball. It was very suspenseful and I liked how Charlie liked to help Luther, even though some people thought he shouldn't because Luther was black, but it didn't matter to Charlie.
