The Ghost's Grave by Peg Kehret

When twelve-year-old Josh apprehensively spends the summer in Washington state with his eccentric Aunt Ethel, he encounters the ghost of a one-legged coal miner. After stumbling upon a metal box of buried treasure, he solves the mystery of the box and finds out more about himself and his family.

  1. This was my most favorite book of all. This story is not ordinary with normal familys that care for pets or aunts with clean houses. It's actually quite the opposite. This book includes ghosts and robbers which make the story suspenseful. I especially liked how the author wrote that the ghost in the story, Willie, asks the main character in the story, Josh, to dig up his leg bones in the cemetery and bury them with the rest of his body on top of a hill. I wouldn't of wanted to do that but Josh actually agreed to do it so it made much suspense and it made me very interested to read the book. I would highly recommend this awesome book to anyone would likes to read about mysteries or ghost.

  2. The greatest mystery story of all, agreeing with EC, I also loved the part where Willie asked Josh to dig up his legs, and bury them with the rest of his body. I can imagine that if I was asked to do it, I wouldn't either. I really enjoyed this book because it is one of the best mysteries I've ever read, and I hope that Peg writes more and more, because I know I'll be reading them asap.

  3. This book was a great spooky mystery book. It was quite easy to understand and was full of suspense. I enjoyed the book from the start to the finish. I agree with EC and RR that the part when the ghost Willie asked Josh to dig his legs up was amazing. It put a load of pressure and anxiety on Josh but I was happy when he did the job. I believe he is an adventurous fellow like me. He is especially brave too to do the job as fast as that. He basically risked his life. He also did a good job when the bank robber came of writing in a cake to a friend that he was in trouble. This was a four star ghost and mystery book that had an amazing plot and solution. I would recommend this to the adventurous and brave. Like RR, I will read more of Peg's new books when they come out.

  5. This book was very good but should not win the Nutmeead awards. It was a fun book to read but it was very unrealistic. I know a book about ghosts is going to be unrealistic but having breakfast for dinner and dinner for breakfast is too much. But I did love the the part when a robber came to Josh's house and how brave he was to dig up Willie's(a ghost he met)bones.Overall this is a good book.

  6. I love this book. I think it is so cool that he meets an actual ghost. I think its funny that the ghost read a story about ghosts and scary books. I like the part in the end where he moves on. If i said any more, i would probably spoil it. You should really readit sometime!

  8. I really enjoyed this book. It had some very surprising parts in it. Josh thinks his aunt will be boring, but when she shoots a bat with a shotgun, his opinion of her completely changes. My favorite part was when Josh is trying to find out who moved his book. It' s fun to figure out what happens next. Josh leaves his book next to the pillow, but when he goes to read it again it is on the table. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great mystery.

  9. I am in the middle of this book right now and from what I have read so far is that Josh is in for a rougher summer than he thought he was going to have.If you want to find out what happens you have to pick up this book and read it for your self. One last thing if you want to find out what Aunt Eathel does, read this book.

  10. The book The Ghost's Grave is amazing!Josh isn't exactly having a normal summer with Aunt Eathel. The character Aunt Eathel surely made the book interesting. Like when she shot a bat, in the kitchen. This book has a mystery that is very original.I would've never thought of a young boy digging in a grave. I'm not going to say much more about the mystery incase I give it away.I would highly recommend this book!

  15. I enjoyed this book because it is very suspensful. It is also a very good book because it talks about surreal things like ghosts and makes them seem so real. I also like it because they used teamwork when the robber came in and because the robber got caught and sent to jail for stealing the money that was meant for an animal shelter. It's not like the animals cared or the people who donated right? No, they did care! This is why I recommend this book.
